Filk songs written for or about SPECIFIC FILKERS?
What filk songs do you know or have written that are about or were written for SPECIFIC FILKERS? I will be relying heavily on the filk community to contribute to this directory. Over time, I'm hoping to cover as many of the popular filk song topics as possible.

You can post your answer directly into the FilkFAQ page for this question (I've already posted some of my own here), or post it below.

Thanks for your help in making the Dandelion Report FilkFAQ a useful resource for the filking community! You can find the full list of FilkFAQ questions here.

There are rather a lot about Phil Allcock, and his philandering habits with other people's tunes. :)
There are a couple of his about me, too. But then, they were usually my tunes.

Brenda Sutton ([info]ladyat) and i wrote this one about Terence ([info]khaosworks):
http://www.autographedcat.com/songs/terence_chua_could_filk_it.html

It inspired this response from Dave Rood([info]surrdave):
http://www.surrdave.com/lyrics/3WS.html

I wrote this one about Dave Weingart ([info]filkerdave):
http://www.autographedcat.com/songs/two_of_dave.html

And this one about Seanan McGuire ([info]cadhla):
http://www.autographedcat.com/songs/glitter_breasts.html

This song about Gafilk 1 mentions several filkers by name:
http://www.autographedcat.com/songs/georgias_first_ever_filking_con.html

Mark Mandel wrote this one about Erica Neely ([info]catalana):

This is one I cobbled after about a year of filking, not knowing many of the people named at the time.

Also, there's a sound file for the one [info]autographedcat mentioned, for the moment at least.

Of course, since my songwriting--like many of us--is strongly influenced by the community, there are shades of various filkers in various songs.

I wrote a song called "Spandex" (TTTO Talis Kimberley's "Velvet") about Teddy.

I also wrote "Song for a Zander" (TTTO Zander's "Song for Amanda"), but it's actually about Phil Allcock, not Zander.

I wrote a song about Debbie Ohi which is tentatively titled "Watch Out (for Debbie Ohi)."

These are just off the top of my head.

Well Rob's already mentioned the song he and Brenda did about me.

If it counts, "A Time for Healing" was written specifically for Erica Neely, although it doesn't mention her by name.

I got immortalized in this year's Consonance songbook by Robin Baylor and Randy Hoffman due to my infamous mushroom allergy. Randy's was "Poisoning Con Chairs With a Wok," but I'm unfortunately blanking on the one Robin Baylor did.

[info]admnaismith has written brilliant parodies called "The Filk-osopher's Song" (ttto "The Philosopher's Song") and "Clique Alley" (ttto "Creeque Alley"), each of which mention a number of specific filkers (mostly Northwest ones), including myself, Cat Faber & Callie Hills, Heather Alexander and Phil Obermarck, Cecilia Eng, Frank Hayes, Jeff Hitchin, Tom Smith, Jordin Kare, and probably some others that I'm forgetting.

Jeff & Maia Bohnhoff have "Pharaohs of Filk" (ttto "Sultans of Swing"), which mentions the Duras Sisters, Dr. Jane, and um... there I go forgetting who else again. (Does Frank Hayes disease cover this sort of memory lapse?)

Echo's Children has "Play it Slow", which is for and about Joe Bethancourt, and You Work Too Hard, inspired by Heather Alexander. (The lyric goes "Heather, you work too hard," so I think it counts.)

They also have "Tribute", which is for and about Dave Carter. I didn't know him or his music so I don't know if people would call him a filker or not, but I thought the song might still fit your request.

I've got:

Operation: Ohio Storm, about Tom Smith (and OVFF, the year the song-writing contest was "The Best Song Tom Smith Never Wrote")

Rug Rats (co-written with Deborah Ridpath Ohi), about Allison Durno, although it doesn't mention her by name, and could be sung for various people in a similar situation.

It Ain't Easy, about Puzzlebox.

Heh - the two I can think of offhand I've written for/about specific filkers, I don't think I want them knowing were about them! ;-) Ooh, make that three, actually, and it's another in the same boat.

Chris Conway did a song at the Saturday open filk at Confluence that mentioned several filkers, but I forget what the song was called.

Something about the first orbiting recording studio. There's a British version and an American version.

Mike Stein's tribute to Bill Maraschiello, "For All Friends of the Piper", should be remembered.

Murray Porath wrote "Juan Henry" about Juanita Coulson and "Loup Garou" about Michael Longcor. And of course, Murray himself is skewered in Frank Hayes' "Cheap Lawyer" (the song isn't genuinely about Murray; it just takes his name in vain as it were).

Yooh wrote a song about me, once ... cuz she's crazy and sweet and my friend :))
It was never set to music though, and thus never made it's way out into public, mostly cuz it was based on an insider joke re. A Thousand Ships, and people would only be puzzled about what it means *g*
But for your reading pleasure, go here: http://www.filk.de/katy/songs/helen.html
Needless to say, I was VERY flattered when she sent it to me :)

Orbiting Filk Recording Studio

Chorus
I'm the engineer on the first orbiting filk recording studio.
As we orbit around I record the sounds of the filkers as they come and go.
Come and go..,

1. Into space dock comes Ookla the Mok, those guys never miss a trick.
They're recording with a new percussionist, he's a monkey with a hockey stick.
In studio 3 Urban Tapestry sing how they like chocolate and sex.
I can offer them one, but as to the other, I don't thing that I've got any left !

Chorus

2. And just like a wish here's Leslie Fish and she's singing with a Nyrond called Zander
Accompanied by the "iy yi yi" from the ghost of Carmen Miranda
The my decks on the fritz since the station was hit by a antigrav nutrino
Then Andrea Dale said it never fails - just pour on some Zen Cappucino

Chorus

3. When Mary Bertke came to record with me we agreed our labour should be traded
Now she's got a brand new shiny CD and all my leads (cords) are beautifully braided
Steve Mac's on the track of a new Worldream and his song would melt a heart of granite
To save time, we'll stick the mikes outside and, in one go, record the whole damn planet

Chorus

Bridge
As it's my place and there was some space last night I recorded a ballad.
Then to chill I was going to have dinner but alien jellyfish stole my salad
Of all the mysteries in this world I would gladly give a reward
To someone who'll tell me why the best music happens when I forget to press record !!!! arrghh!!!

4. Weird sisters 3 will record a cd - we'll be finished just an hour down the line
I know it wont take any longer coz they always get rite the 1st time.
And Bill Sutton's got his own studio so it was hard to get him up here
But now he's here every night when I turn out the lights since my bar stocked English beer

Chorus

extra verses - depending on who's in the room

5. Beaming in 3 by 3 here's the nMC so I'd better set some mikes up rapido !
While my android takes their order for ale and 25 Photon Torpedos
On their arrival Cosmic Trifle just couldn't be any keener
Coz half of them are thrilled they're following in the footsteps of Valentina.

6. Strange but true, Katy and Yooh arrive in a thousand ships !
Katy winks and whispers in my ear, "Well, we need somewhere to store all our whips!"
But seriously the ships are full of German fen, the concourse is like an Autobahn.
And for their own mysterious purposes they've kidnapped Oliver Khan

In studio 1 Phoenix are having fun, that's a band that's hard to record.
With their amps all turned to 11, and swapping instruments every chord
And what do you know, Paul Bristow has been rewarded for his persistence.
He's singing with a choir made up entirely of female Doctor's assistants

Hmm. A few spring to mind, but may not be well... savory?

"Abby's Got New Genitalia", I think by Rennie Levine, which was performed, AFAIK, once, the year it happened.

Then I think there were a couple of songs about the time Spencer tied the full cashbox to the roof of his car before driving to a con. (Gary Ehrlich and Rennie Levine, see here.)

There are songs where groups introduce themselves, such as Musical Chairs' Dona Nobis Pacem (she's in Greenbelt, that's in Maryland...; goddamit I am a tenor, I can't help that I was born a girl)

On a sillier note, Phrolicon Phire Phollies, from the last Philly Philk Phlash, loosely based on a bunch of people who stayed in a room at Phrolicon in 1989, including several filkers (Doug Ayen, Lisa Padol, Harold Feld I think)
